Water that moves around a building rather than through a fixture: sump pumps and their discharge, outdoor taps and hoses, and garden irrigation. Much of this work is driven by the season, and none of it is inside the pressurised supply within the building.
Common failure modes
- A sump pump that has never been run since the day it was fitted
- A float switch fouled by debris or held against the pit wall
- An outdoor tap left charged with water through a freeze
- A discharge line that returns the water to the same pit
- An irrigation head bent or blocked and never checked after the winter
